Fiona Urquhart – Level 1 EQUESTRIAN PILATES® Mat Certified Instructor
Fiona came to fitness training in midlife after a misspent youth working on a master’s degree and subsequently as a freelance journalist. She’s been a fitness trainer and Pilates instructor since 2005 and particularly loves to teach women (and men) of a certain age. Fiona took up horse riding in her late 50s in an attempt to overcome a lifetime of fear resulting from a riding incident in her childhood. Despite her anxiety, every instructor commented on her naturally perfect seat, an ability she attributes entirely to Pilates. This innate aptitude inspired her to pursue instructor training in EQUESTRIAN PILATES® so that she might help other riders find their own balanced, independent seat.
Fiona grew up in Scotland and came to the United States in 1981 to pursue her master’s degree. After living for 20 years close to the coast in Southern California, Fiona and her husband, a physician and professor of geriatric medicine, recently moved to a ranch where they plan to live out her husband’s retirement among horses, goats, dogs, chickens and alpacas. Together they are building a fitness business catering to equestrians and to the older population.
Fiona hopes to keep teaching EQUESTRIAN PILATES® for many more years to come!
